Nepal Ring Wrestling set for back to back outdoor events this weekend to open 2022

Nepal Ring Wrestling Association is kicking back into action for two events this coming weekend. On Saturday January 1st, the NRWA will be at Chunikhel Ground in Budhanilkantha Municipality, Kathmandu for Winter Slam. Chunikhel sits at the edge of the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park which is home to leopards, monkeys, bears and more. The odds are very low that any of those animals will show up at the event but given the way that the NRWA has shown off the Nepali great outdoors with their last few events, it’s not hard to imagine a fantasy scenario where that unlikely appearance could come true.

Five matches are set for the card. According to a report from hamrokelkud.com, those matches will take place in five different divisions with cash prizes on the line in each match. In the heavyweight division, the winner will be rewarded with 75,000 Rs (approximately $630.00 US) with prizes also being awarded for bouts in the hardcore, middleweight, tag team and lightweight divisions. The same report shares that the event will cost the NRWA 1.5 million Rs (upwards of $12,600 US) to organize.

The same report from hamrokelkud.com shares some names that the NRWA has confirmed as being in action at Winter Slam. Some of those names include Nuwakote Tiger, Chattan, David, Shine, Tuppi Gang, X-Hero, Lady Angel, Tanu, King Robot, CJ World, ASC, John, Baka, and UBL. Many of the names involved in Winter Slam are familiar ones due to their previous appearances with the NRWA. However, there are some names that we do not recognize that may be making their debut in the Ring Wrestling ring. There is no word yet on the planned matchups in the aforementioned divisions so it is unclear at this point if Chattan will be defending his RW National Heavyweight Championship that he defeated Nuwakote Tiger for back at the High Altitude Championship in November. Chances are good that the champion will at least be in action at the event, though.

Saturday’s Winter Slam event from Chunikhel Ground in Budhanilkantha will get started at 1 PM Nepal Time and be live streamed for free on the NRWA Facebook page. Less information has become available for the the Sunday show as of now, which is being held at Gufadanda, Sindhupalchowk, Nepal and is being titled as the Second Winter Slam. The event is being held in an area that was badly affected by flooding recently and is being held on Climate Change Day to help raise awareness for climate change and it’s effects in the area. The NRWA is hopeful that bringing a wrestling event to the area can help to bring badly needed tourist funds into the area. The poster below has been released for that event.

These two events are the first of four Winter Slam events that the NRWA has planned for this winter in Nepal. The NRWA has a good history of providing a live stream of all of their events on their Facebook page so the odds are high that the company will be streaming live on back to back days from different parts of the country.

The second Winter Slam is also set to be an outdoor show with matches to take place in all of the same divisions as the first Winter Slam on Saturday with no matchups having been made official at this point.

All of the NRWA’s events always deliver with great outdoor scenery, huge lively crowds (the High Altitude Championship had over 5,000 fans on hand that walked over an hour on foot to a remote location to attend the event) and awesome in ring (and even plenty of brawling outside of the ring) action.

For those looking to bring in 2022 with some very fun to watch pro wrestling, there aren’t many better options than catching some Ring Wrestling action from Nepal!
