Historic first women’s match headlines Dubai pro wrestling event

Wrestlefest DXB out of Dubai has been making waves in the wrestling news headlines over the past few months with historic first after historic first. At the October 15th Wrestlefest event, Equal Measures, a women’s wrestling match between Alex Windsor and Charlie Morgan main evented the show. This match was a historic first for multiple reasons. First, it was the first ever women’s wrestling match to take place in Dubai. Second, it was the first time a women’s match main evented a pro wrestling event in the Middle East!

The women’s match wasn’t the only debut for WrestleFest DXB at the event. New ring announcer Sam Mirzaei also made his debut on this historic night and reportedly did a great job in hosting the event and getting the crowd prepared and hyped for the historic main event.

Friend of WrestleMap, Vedant, was on hand for the historic event and provided us with some exclusive photos and high spot highlights from the event that can be seen below.

Since the event, WrestleFest DXB has been working hard on uploading the night’s matches to their YouTube page. So far, all of the matches from the card except for the Jay Blade vs. Eli Hush match have been uploaded to the page. Since the video hasn’t been released, we can’t share footage from that match, but can report that Jay Blade emerged as the victor.

Zephyr defeated MK to win the medallions which will guarantee him a shot at the Dubai World Wrestling Championship currently held by Shaheen. But in order to do so, it took the referee being taken out (the fans of WrestleFest DXB were thrilled for this, as they usually are. Chanting “hit the ref” is one of their favorite pastimes) and a chair shot from Zephyr on MK to clinch the win.

In tag team tournament action, Jay Blade and Cryptid teamed up in a 2 on 1 match against Nova Nox. However, Jay Blade would turn on Cryptid in the match, allowing Nova Nox to advance to the next round of the tag tournament all alone.

Johnny Evers defeated Alireza in a hard fought match after Evers drove Alireza’s face into the mat with his finisher.

The Dubai World Wrestling Championship was on the line as the champion Shaheen took on the challenger Thomas Ramsey. These two wrestled for nearly twenty minutes with Ramsey wearing out the champion with submissions until Shaheen hit an explosion of offense. Shaheen hit a moonsault, seemingly wrapping the match up, but Ramsey was able to kick out and locked in another submission. Shaheen was able to use his leverage, hit a forward roll while locked in, and stick Ramsey’s shoulder to the mat for the three count as the champion retained.

Finally, the historic match between Alex Windsor and Charlie Morgan headlined the show. The crowd was very into this match and both women put on an awesome display, with Charlie Morgan even doing an insane balcony dive during the match. Both women gave it their all and Morgan seemed to have won the match at one point but Windsor was able to get her foot on the rope at the last moment. Charlie Morgan would end up emerging as the winner, though, after catching Alex Windsor for a surprise roll up for the win.

WrestleFest DXB was back in action on October 29th for Blood Sweat and Fears and will be again on November 12th for Above The Clouds. In some business-related news, WrestleFest DXB announced that Virgin Megastore will now be their ticketing partner, an enormous retailer in the region with tickets available at all Virgin Megastores throughout the area, surely helping to get more eyes on the product for future events.

Be sure to follow WrestleFest DXB on Instagram to keep up with what the trailblazing wrestling and entertainment show has up their sleeves next.
