SETUP Thailand Pro Wrestling announces arrival of Dragon Gate stars for August event, more international stars in July

Cool news coming out of Thailand. SETUP Pro Wrestling, who are based out of Bangkok, have shared an update about one of their upcoming events.

SETUP Episode 9 is scheduled for August 20th and is set to feature wrestlers from Japan’s Dragon Gate Pro Wrestling. Dragon Gate is one of Japan’s biggest and best known promotions. The promotion was founded by legendary wrestler Ultimo Dragon back in 1999 as Toryumon Japan and by 2004, Dragon had left the company leading to the name change to Dragon Gate due to copyrights owned by Ultimo Dragon. Dragon Gate has sustained long term success and even operated branches in the United States and United Kingdom for a time. Dragon Gate is known mostly for its junior heavyweight in-ring style.

SETUP has opted to give Episode 9 the working title of Open The Thailand Gate as a way to further put an emphasis on the presence of the visiting guests from Japan. So far, there have not been many details revealed as to who fans in Bangkok should expect to see in the ring on August 20th. But SETUP has stated on their Facebook page that this event will take Thai wrestling to another level.

SETUP will be in action twice more before Episode 9. Episode 7 is set for July 10 and Episode 8 is set for July 30 so more details regarding the event set to feature stars of Dragon Gate should be revealed in time.

Episode 7 will be headlined by an AWGC Jr. Heavyweight Championship match between the champion Shivam and challenger Monomoth. Episode 8, on the other hand, is shaping up to be a pretty massive show for SETUP as well.

Plenty of international talent has already been announced for Episode 8. Expected to be a part of Episode 8 so far are Chris Brookes, Masa Takanashi, Hoshitango (all three from DDT), Mei Suruga (Tokyo Joshi Pro) and Kappa Kozo who will all be making the trip from Japan. Da Butcherman and Andruew Tang from Singapore Pro Wrestling will also be on the card as will DMan, Skyler and Zorro from India’s Wrestle Square.

It’s great to see the scene in Thailand growing and bigger and bigger international names coming to the country.
