Pro wrestling rings in the Nepali New Year as Nepal Ring Wrestling Heavyweight Championship belt changes hands

In what appears to be a new pro wrestling tradition in Nepal, the Nepal Ring Wrestling Association took to the squared circle to ring in the Nepali New Year. Back on April 14th, which is New Year’s Day in Nepal, the NRWA traveled to Dupcheshwar, Nuwakot, Nepal for their 2nd annual Summer Slam event.

The crowd on hand was impressive, which has come to be expected now at NRWA events. Subarna Shrestha, General Secretary of Nepal Ring Wrestling, shared with WrestleMap that an estimated crowd of 5,000+ was on hand.

Unfortunately, due to technical issues, the NRWA was unable to live stream the event like usual and has promised to upload the recorded version of the event soon. Since that is the case, we’ll hold off on giving a match by match rundown until we’re able to see the footage and confirm the results.

One thing that we can confirm, though, is that the NRWA Heavyweight Championship belt has changed hands again. David came into the event in his first reign as champion, having won the title in a bout earlier in April at the NRWA First Heritage Classic after defeating Nuwakote Tiger who had defeated Chattan in the opening contest of the event to win the title belt himself. In a rematch between Nuwakote Tiger and David, Nuwakote Tiger was able to get the victory and become the new NRWA Heavyweight Champion and title belt holder, making this his third reign with the championship belt.

Reports out of Nepal indicate that Tanu was also in action in a women’s division match, former NRWA Heavyweight Champion and belt holder Chattan was in action and there was also a tag team match. However, we want to hold off on taking a look at any of those matches until we see them. We’ll do our best to keep an eye out for word from the NRWA that the full event footage has been released and share the event with you here.
