Congolese wrestler Ngomba dies as result of injuries suffered in the ring

Sad news coming out of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Congolese pro wrestler Ngomba has succumbed to injuries suffered in the ring during a match in Kinshasa on Sunday, February 11th, 2024.

The Congolese wrestling community is mourning the loss of the wrestler who was injured as the result of a brainbuster style maneuver that went wrong resulting in a tragic landing. Ngomba was moved from the ring as the match continued and would later succumb to his injuries.

Footage of the match and injury was shared with WrestleMap but we have opted not to share them here.

Wrestlers passing away in the ring has been an unfortunate and tragic part of the industry since its inception. Pro wrestling is a dangerous pastime and wrestling rings aren’t as padded as people outside of the industry would believe and this is especially so in the Congo where rings appear to be extra firm. Wrestlers put their bodies on the line for the entertainment of the fans and the love of the sport. In the Congo, wrestling is extremely popular amongst the fans but pay for the wrestlers isn’t always a guarantee. In these situations, the wrestlers are putting their body, livelihood and in this tragic scenario, their life on the line for the entertainment of the fans and the love of the game.

Ngomba made the ultimate sacrifice for his craft and the entertainment of the fans and deserves to be remembered among the other wrestlers from around the world who have sadly experienced the same fate.

Rest in Pace Ngomba.
