Singapore Pro Wrestling set to return May 27 with sold out comeback show following COVID hiatus

On Friday, May 27th, Singapore Pro Wrestling will finally return to the ring in front of a public live crowd! SPW has not been able to run a show that has been fully open to the public since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, the Southeast Asian country has returned to the ring for some events that have been held for private crowds at corporate events. These events were surely appreciated by the wrestlers and a good chance to get the ring rust off. But a return to a live audience will undoubtedly be met with a great deal of relief and happiness from the wrestlers, the organization as a whole, and the fans.

The great news is that this public return to fans has been met with a great response. Tickets for SPW’s Homecoming return show have already sold out. The fans on hand will be in for a great show as four championship title belts will be on the line and some international wrestlers will be in the house at Homecoming.

First, SPW Singapore Champion Da Butcherman, who will be accompanied by his best friend CK Vin, will take on the impressive physical specimen Destroyer Dharma. Dharma only has one loss on his record in SPW and that loss came at the hands of Da Butcherman when he lost the Singapore Championship. Now, Destroyer Dharma looks to avenge that loss, recapture his former title belt and become the first ever two time SPW Singapore Champion.

Also in singles title action, “The Statement” Andruew Tang will put his SPW Southeastern Asian Championship on the line against Aiden Rex. Tang is in his fourth reign as SPW SEA Champion and his current reign began before the COVID-19 pandemic. His challenger, Aiden Rex, won the opportunity to challenge for the title back before the pandemic as well, beating current WWE superstar Dante Chen (formerly known as Trexxus in SPW) to become number one contender for the title. Andruew Tang has gone through some personal issues in the last couple years but is said to be in top shape now. Will the champion hang on to the belt and continue his historic fourth reign with the belt? Or will Aiden Rex take advantage of a big opportunity that he arrived at by securing a big win?

The night’s third title match is an international, inter-promotional tag team match for the SPW Southeast Asia Tag Team Championships. NYC and Alexis Lee, the reigning champions who will be representing SPW, will take on Paksa and Terry Diesel of Thailand’s SETUP Wrestling. Paksa and Terry Diesel are not strangers to competing in SPW, however, this will be their first time competing as a tag team for the company. Can the tag team chemistry and strategy formed by NYC and Alexis Lee be enough to hold off the visitors from Thailand?

Speaking of visitors from Thailand, the night’s fourth title match features two of them. Jonathon Johnson and Shivam are set for a rematch of their match from SETUP’s Winner Takes All event. At that show, Shivam beat Johnathon Johnson in a double title match that saw Shivam capture both the SETUP Openweight Championship and the AWGC Jr. Heavyweight Championship. Now, Johnathon Johnson gets a shot at revenge and another shot at becoming a double champion. It will be interesting to see if Shivam can duplicate his big win from Winner Takes All and leave Singapore with both of his title belts.

Beside the four championship bouts, several other SPW wrestlers will be in action. In tag team action, Meta and Emman will take on Bryson Blade and “The Trickster” Kyle Black. BGJ and Sultan Singh will meet in singles action. Also in singles action will be Big T taking on Riz.

The action is set to kick off at 7:30 PM Singapore time from the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Association. SPW has indicated that there may be some general admission seats available still for some local fans. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for more information on that. So far there has been no word on when or if this event will be available on video for international fans.
